Event Description

Gaabriel and I have attended the NAFOW event for the last two years in Portland and Cleveland. We will be going again this year. Scranton is worth visiting for its Welsh background and history alone BUT when you factor in all of the traditional attractions of the NAFOW event it is certainly worth making every effort to be there. Highlights of this years event include........well I wont say more here but take a look at this page for more info ........http://www.storyforgestudios.com/americymru/directory/index.php/136-North-American-Festival-of-Wales-Scranton-2012

While you're there try our NAFOW, Crosswords and send a few NAFOW invite and reminder cards. Help bring the crowds in

I should note that my great grandfather Dan Powell immigrated from Blaina, New South Wales, with his father John Powell, wife, and siblings. Dan was a prominent businessman & first Burgess of Dunmore, Lackawanna County. A good source of local Scranton Welsh history I found using the Webcrawler search engine-"Dan Powell" & found "Prominent Welshmen of Scranton"

Scranton quiz- I got 6 of 10 (60%) correct. Not bad inasmuch as I left that area 53 years ago.

Fixed the scoring mechanism...needed to set it as a percentage. Pass mark is 60%

Take the 'Do you know Scranton Quiz - here: - Scranton Quiz -   click 'continue' tab in lower left corner of that page. I am unashamed to say I got only 3 of the 10 right!  But then I went to the Wiki site, learned a lot and did it again - getting all 10 right that time !

But DON'T go to Traxx bar adjacent to the Radisson! Cor Meibion Pontarddulais was disgusted by the indifferent service of the bar girls! They all migrated down the street to "Molly's" in a heartbeat.....so fast that even I could not catch up with them! LOL

Lived in the Scranton area until age 18 then moved to Pittsburgh. Still have many relatives there. Graduated high school (Dunmore) 1958. Most all of my Welsh history moved from Wales to Lackawanna County because of the numerous coal mines in that area.
